War Recruitment Poster - AUSTRALIA

Not many people in Europe have idea of the Australian major involvement in World War II. In fact, it was one of the first countries to declare war on Nazi Germany shortly after the invasion of Poland (it's famous the "Britain is at war therefore Australia is at war" speech) and was also deeply commited on the War at the Pacific Ocean. As with many western countries, women played a important role in the war effort, and massive campaigns tried to convince women to leave their homes and join the Armed Forces of work in a suply factory. Thank you very much Megan for the interesting card, I like everything related with the World Wars. This postcard took 12 days to arrive!

War Poster, Unknown Artist, 1943 - AUSTRALIA

Australia entered World War II shortly after the invasion of Poland, declaring war on Germany on 3 September 1939. By the end of the war, almost a million Australians had served in the armed forces, whose military units fought primarily in the European theatre, North African campaign, and the South West Pacific theatre. In addition, Australia came under direct attack for the first time in its post-colonial history. Its casualties from enemy action during the war were 27073 killed and 23477 wounded.

  2. I think they're common over there, because several Forum users offer them for swap... I've seen lots of different designs, some of them really good - I have a thing for war and political propaganda.
