Mogul Crag, Krasnoyarsk Stolby - RUSSIA - UNESCO TENTATIVE
This card came all the way from the middle of 'Mother Russia', more precisely from Krasnoyarsk (I just found out that the author Anton Chekhov judged it to be the most beautiful city in Siberia) where the sender lives. Not far from this city stands a Natural Park with unique rock formations that are the 'Shangri-La' of Rock Climbers, the Krasnoyarsk Stolby, a site that has been submitted to UNESCO to become a WHS. Thank you very much Alexey for the card and specially for the most wonderful stamp I've seen in all my life (a special edition dedicated to Curonian Spit and with a relief that feels just like real sand... wonderful!). This postcard took 13 days to arrive!
According to geomorphological division the territory where "Stolby" is located lies in the zone of contact of Altai-Sayan mountain country with Mid-Siberian plateau and Western Siberian plain. The rocks are mostly of sedimentary and volcanic origin, aged from the Cambrian (more than 600 million years old) to the Carbon period. The territory of Krasnoyarsk Stolby nominated as World Heritage Site is an integral system within which natural ecosystems are preserved in a rather stable state in spite of being located close up to an industrial city.
