Site of Delphi - GREECE - UNESCO #393

My 900th received card since I've joined postcrossing! I can't believe that in a few weeks I can achieve the one thousand cards mark... wonderful! Well, this one is also from Greece and it shows the legendary religious site of Delphi where the famous oracle of Apollo spoke and give the answers that thousands of pilgrims came looking for from all over the country. Thank you very much Elena for this great card, the 366th in my UNESCO collection (only 615 to finish). This postcard took 4 days to arrive!

UNESCO #393 - Archaeological Site of Delphi - GREECE

The sanctuary of Delphi, where the oracle of Apollo spoke, was the site of the omphalos, the 'navel of the world'. Blending harmoniously with the superb landscape and charged with sacred meaning, Delphi in the 6th century B.C. was indeed the religious centre and symbol of unity of the ancient Greek world. Situated in a magnificent natural setting which is still intact, it is an outstanding example of a great Pan-Hellenic sanctuary.
