Studenica Monastery, Kraljevo - SERBIA - UNESCO #389

Another beautiful Serbian Orthodox Monastery, this time the Studenica in central Serbia, the largest and the richest of them all, founded by Stevan Nemanja in 1190. With this amazing card I now have all the four Serbian UNESCO World Heritage Sites, another country completed! Thank you so much my dear Ratka, for this extraordinary contribution for my collection that jumped to 348 sites, only 633 to finish now. This postcard took 9 days to arrive!
UNESCO #389 - Studenica Monastery - SERBIA
The Studenica Monastery was established in the late 12th century by Stevan Nemanja, founder of the medieval Serb state, shortly after his abdication. Its two principal monuments, the Church of the Virgin and the Church of the King, both built of white marble, enshrine priceless collections of 13th- and 14th-century Byzantine painting.
