Pieniny Mountains - POLAND

One of the things I like to do when I get my cards is try to guess the place they show before turning it and read the message and stamps. With this official postcard I was completely mistaken by the photo and thought it was a card from North America or Canada - it turns out that this beautiful picture was made in Pieniny National Park, the most popular mountains in Poland, according to the sender. Thank you Magda. This postcards took 8 days to arrive!
Pienuiny National Park - POLAND
Pieniny National Park is a protected area located in the heart of Pieniny Mountains in the southernmost part of Poland, on the border with Slovakia. Its head office is in Krościenko nad Dunajcem. The Pieniny mountains are mainly built from limestone and they create picturesque and impressive, almost perpendicular walls which go down towards the Dunajec River. The most famous summit - Trzy Korony (Three Crowns) is 982 meters above sea level high. So far around 6500 animal species have been proven to live in the Pieniny. There are numerous birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians as well as mammals. The most important predator is the lynx.
