Bayon Temple, Angkor Thom - CAMBODIA - UNESCO #668
Another postcard from Cambodia! This is incredible, last month I only could dream of having a Angkor card, now I have nine, all different and two of them sent from location! This one was sent by Du's friend (the one he went visit a couple of months ago) after he asked her, knowing my preference for cards sent from location. She didn't sign the card, so I don't know her name but I want to express my gratitude to both of you, it was a amazing surprise and a wonderful complement to this entry on my collection - I loved the fact that you picked a stamp with a Khmer temple. This postcard took 23 days to arrive!
Angkor is one of the most important archaeological sites in South-East Asia. Stretching over some 400 km2, including forested area, Angkor Archaeological Park contains the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire, from the 9th to the 15th century. They include the famous Temple of Angkor Wat and, at Angkor Thom, the Bayon Temple with its countless sculptural decorations. UNESCO has set up a wide-ranging programme to safeguard this symbolic site and its surroundings.
