Nikko - JAPAN - UNESCO #913
In this card we have the main building of Nikko Futarasan Shrine and the Ghost Lanterns, one of the hundred religious constructions in this site. According to the sender that worked there until last month, several of them are now hidden by scaffolds because of the major renovations that will try to reestablish the original spectacularity. Thank you very much David, your card is the 333th in my collection, 648 more and I'm done. This postcard took 8 days to arrive!
The Shrines and Temples of Nikko form a single complex composed of one hundred three religious buildings within two Shinto shrines and one Buddhist temple located in an outstanding natural setting. The inscribed property is located in Tochigi Prefecture, in the northern part of Japan’s Kanto region. The first buildings were constructed on the slopes of the sacred Nikko mountains by a Buddhist monk in the 8th century.
