The Struve Geodetic Arc - FINLAND - UNESCO #1187
I'm really happy for getting this card - first of all it's the first time I see a card like this (pre-paid and address in front with all the back available for the message) and second because it's the 3rd card I get showing Struve Geodetic Arc (already got from Ukraine and Russia) the 10 country WHS. Thank you so much Elenna, I now have all the UNESCO sites in Finland, another country completed! This postcard took 4 days to arrive!
The Struve Arc is a chain of survey triangulations stretching from Hammerfest in Norway to the Black Sea, through 10 countries and over 2,820 km. These are points of a survey, carried out between 1816 and 1855 by the astronomer Friedrich Georg Wilhelm Struve, which represented the first accurate measuring of a long segment of a meridian.
