"Aurora" Cruiser, St Petersburg - RUSSIA
The Aurora Cruiser is one of the symbols of the October Soviet Revolution and still active, after more than one century, preserved at St. Petersburg, Russia where the sender of this postcard lives. Thank you very much Mary (loved the Matryoshka stickers on the back), I already have several vintage CCCP cards with a drawing of this boat, but now I also have this nice photo of this piece of naval history. This postcard took 12 days to arrive!
Aurora is a 1900 Russian protected cruiser, currently preserved as a museum ship in St. Petersburg. She battled the Japanese Navy in the Russo-Japanese War. One of the first incidents of the October Revolution in Russia took place on the cruiser Aurora on 25 October 1917, when Aurora refused to carry out an order to put to sea.
