Minsk - BELARUS
This is my first card from Minsk, the capital of Belarus (one of this days I'll start a capital city postcard collection, must make a list of the ones I already have). Belarus is one of those countries I know almost nothing about, but the resent researches I've made because of Postcrossing really make me want to visit it. Thank you very much Anastasia for this postcard and for the beautiful cat stamp you used. This postcard took 31 days to arrive!
Minsk is the capital and largest city of Belarus, situated on the Svislach and Nyamiha rivers. It is the administrative centre of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The earliest historical references to Minsk date to the 11th century (1067), when it was noted as a provincial city within the principality of Polotsk. The settlement developed on the rivers. In 1242, Minsk became a part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It received town privileges in 1499.
