Little Mermaid, Copenhagen - DENMARK

This amazingly beautiful postcard shows one of the greatest icons of Copenhagen, capital city of Denmark - the Little Mermaid bronze statue that recently celebrated his centenary. I had no idea it was so small (just 130cm tall) and according to the sender, lots of tourists get disappointed when they realize the mermaid is really little. Thank you very much Chris for the awesome panoramic postcard, I'm a huge Hans Christian Andersen fan since I was a toddler. This postcard took 5 days to arrive!

The Little Mermaid, Copenhagen - DENMARK
The Little Mermaid (Den lille havfrue) is a bronze statue by Edvard Eriksen, depicting a mermaid. The sculpture is displayed on a rock by the waterside at the Langelinie promenade in Copenhagen, Denmark. It has a height of 1.25 metres and weighs 175 kilograms. Based on the fairy tale of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen, the small and unimposing statue is a Copenhagen icon and has been a major tourist attraction since 1913.

  1. I've never been to Copenhagen, but I've heard this comment before: "Oh, she's so little!". But wait: isn't her name the "little"mermaid? So... :)
