Yuri Gagarin - CCCP

In the heat of the space run, back in the days of cold war, Soviet Union had a major victory over Uniter States when Yuri Gagarin successfully become the first man to reach outer space in his small tin can. This card is a recent Russian edition of a vintage CCCP photography used worldwide as propaganda to the Soviet achievements. Thank you very much for this great card Dalee. This postcard took 16 days to arrive!

Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin (9 March 1934 – 27 March 1968) was a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut. He was the first human to journey into outer space, when his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth on 12 April 1961. Gagarin became an international celebrity, and was awarded many medals and titles, including Hero of the Soviet Union, the nation's highest honour. Gagarin died in 1968 when the MiG-15 training jet he was piloting crashed.

  1. It is good to see the iconic image of Yuri in postcard form. Gagarin's and Sergei Korolev's achivements have been a lengthy labour of love in creating a graphic novel of their global success.

  2. It's a wonderful picture indeed - I really like his peaceful look and I wonder what he felt when he looked to the planet from outer space for the first time... it must have been a amazing feeling!
