Vilnius - LITHUANIA - UNESCO #541

Today I've received my first UNESCO WHS postcard from Lithuania, showing the beautiful city of Vilnius, the place Napoleon named  "the Jerusalem of the North"and several tourist guides state as "the Paris of the East". I don't know which one is describes it the best, but for all I know and read, Vilnius is a beautiful place that I really wish to visit one day. Thank you very much Kristina, now I have 244 sites, only 737 to finish. This postcard took 25 days to arrive!

UNESCO #541 - Vilnius Panorama by night - LITHUANIA

Political centre of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania from the 13th to the end of the 18th century, Vilnius has had a profound influence on the cultural and architectural development of much of eastern Europe. Despite invasions and partial destruction, it has preserved an impressive complex of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and classical buildings as well as its medieval layout and natural setting.
