Coimbra - PORTUGAL

My good friend Eduardo from the Postcrossing official Forum sent e this nice vintage aerial view of Coimbra where he lives. Nowadays Coimbra gained popularity because of the recent designation of UNESCO World Heritage Site for the University and some other historic buildings. Thank you very much Eduardo, I really like vintage cards and those strong saturated colors that the old grainy photographs had. This postcard took 7 days to arrive!

City view of Coimbra - PORTUGAL

Coimbra has been called "A cidade dos estudantes" (The city of the students) or "Lusa-Atenas" (Lusitan-Athens), mainly because it is the site of the University of Coimbra, a public university whose origins can be traced back to the 13th century, one of the oldest in Europe and the oldest academic institution in the Portuguese-speaking world. It served as the nation's capital during the High Middle Ages.
