The Speyer Cathedral - GERMANY - UNESCO #168

With almost 1000 years, the Romanesque cathedral in Speyer is another exmple of the magnificent religious constructions in Germany. From there starts a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela every year (more than 2000km... amazing!). It was sent by Kerstin that lives only 20km from Speyer - thanks a lot, this nice multiview card is the 188th UNESCO site in my collection, 793 missing. This postcard took 13 days to arrive!

Speyer Cathedral, a basilica with four towers and two domes, was founded by Conrad II in 1030 and remodelled at the end of the 11th century. It is one of the most important Romanesque monuments from the time of the Holy Roman Empire. The cathedral was the burial place of the German emperors for almost 300 years.
