The Leaning Tower, Pisa - ITALY - UNESCO #395

This postcard shows probably the most recognizable symbol of Italy... the leaning tower of Pisa, originally erected as the bell tower of the cathedral "La Luminaria" it quickly became the main attraction of this city for all the tourists that visit it every year. Thank you very much Alessandra, this is a major landmark for my collection. 205 sites down, 776 to go. This postcard took 9 days to arrive!

UNESCO #395 - the Leaning Tower,Pisa - ITALY
Standing in a large green expanse, Piazza del Duomo houses a group of monuments known the world over. These four masterpieces of medieval architecture – the cathedral, the baptistry, the campanile (the 'Leaning Tower') and the cemetery – had a great influence on monumental art in Italy from the 11th to the 14th century.
