Historic Inner City of Paramaribo - SURINAME - UNESCO #940

Paramaribo is the capital and the biggest city in Suriname and there we can some historic buildings that show the fusion between European architecture and construction techniques with indigenous South America materials and crafts... yes because Suriname is in South America and not in Africa (Sherwin, the postcrosser that swapped this card with me asked me to say this, because he gets lots of requests from people that think Suriname is in Africa!). Thank you very much Sherwin for this nice card that rises my UNESCO collection to 202 different sites, only 779 to the end. This postcard took 9 days to arrive!
UNESCO #940 - Historic Inner City of Paramaribo - SURINAME
Paramaribo is a former Dutch colonial town from the 17th and 18th centuries planted on the northern coast of tropical South America. The original and highly characteristic street plan of the historic centre remains intact. Its buildings illustrate the gradual fusion of Dutch architectural influence with traditional local techniques and materials.
