Abbey and Altenmünster of Lorsch - GERMANY - UNESCO #515

One more German UNESCO WHS postcard sent by Kerstin arrived today, the last of this amazing swap we've done, with the Abbey and Altenmünster of Lorsch in Hessen. According to the sender, that lives only 30 km from here, this whole area is under major renovation. Thank you very much Kerstin, you've been a major helpo to my collection that has now 212 different sites, 769 more and I'm done. This postcard took 7 days to arrive!
UNESCO #515 - Lorsch - GERMANY
The religious complex represented by the former Lorsch Abbey with its 1,200-year-old gatehouse, which is unique and in excellent condition, comprises a rare architectural document of the Carolingian era with impressively preserved sculpture and painting of that period. It gives architectural evidence of the awakening of the West to the spirit of the early and high Middle Ages under the first king and emperor, Charlemagne.
