Sukhothai - THAILAND - UNESCO #574

This official POSTCROSSING card came all the way from Thailand and it's really beautiful - the smiling face of the Buddha that we see thanks to the intelegent angle chosen by the photographer (Jatuporn Rutnin) and the wonderful end of day light make this one of my favorite cards. Thank you very much Weena for picking such a beautiful card from a UNESCO site for me - I now have 152, only 829 to finish. This postcard took 8 days to arrive!

UNESCO #574 - Phra Atchana, Wat Sri Chum, Sukhothai - THAILAND

Sukhothai was the capital of the first Kingdom of Siam in the 13th and 14th centuries. It has a number of fine monuments, illustrating the beginnings of Thai architecture. The great civilization which evolved in the Kingdom of Sukhothai absorbed numerous influences and ancient local traditions; the rapid assimilation of all these elements forged what is known as the 'Sukhothai style'.
