City of Bath - ENGLAND - UNESCO #428

Another UNESCO site, this time from the beautiful city of Bath in southern England. Thanks you very much Stefanie I must say you live in a wonderful city - I've been there in 2009 before returning to Bristol after a unforgettable road trip around Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset. Ok now, 144 down, 837 to go. This postcard took 4 days to arrive!

UNESCO #428 - Bath Abbey, Bath - ENGLAND
Founded by the Romans as a thermal spa, Bath became an important centre of the wool industry in the Middle Ages. In the 18th century, under George III, it developed into an elegant town with neoclassical Palladian buildings, which blend harmoniously with the Roman baths. Aquae Sulis, constructed in 60-70, continues, under the name of Bath, to be a renowned spa. Its apogee was in the 18th century.
