Völklingen Ironworks - GERMANY - UNESCO #687

After 5 amazing days in Alsace, I went to West Germany. The first stop was on the city of Völklingen to visit the old ironworks site. It really an impressive place (the visit path has 6 km) and you feel like an Mad Max film set with astonishing iron construction that have a strong rust smell. My favorite spot was definitely the giant furnace air blowers that seem to came from Fritz Lang's Metropolis. I really enjoyed this visit, much more than I've expected. Ok now, 109 down, 872 to go.

UNESCO #687 - Völklingen Ironworks - GERMANY

The ironworks, which cover some 6 ha, dominate the city of Völklingen. Although they have recently gone out of production, they are the only intact example, in the whole of western Europe and North America, of an integrated ironworks that was built and equipped in the 19th and 20th centuries and has remained intact.
