Strasbourg - FRANCE - UNESCO #495

After a long drive (almost 1000km) I've reached my first main stop - the city of Strasbourg where my sister-in-law lives. The Alsace is such a wonderful place, and we love to go there specially in the summer when the high temperatures in Portugal give us a strong need to search for colder destinations in the northern Europe - bad luck, this year we were caught in a heat wave with temperatures around 38ºC and humidity near 80% (hooray!)... even though we had a wonderful week there - thanks a million Anabela! This beautiful card makes my collection grow to 107 sites, only 874 to the end.

UNESCO #495 - Grand Île, Strasbourg - FRANCE

Surrounded by two arms of the River Ill, the Grande Ile (Big Island) is the historic centre of the Alsatian capital. It has an outstanding complex of monuments within a fairly small area. The cathedral, the four ancient churches and the Palais Rohan – former residence of the prince-bishops – far from appearing as isolated monuments, form a district that is characteristic of a medieval town and illustrates Strasbourg's evolution from the 15th to the 18th century.
