Sacred City of Kandy - SRI LANKA - UNESCO #450

Another Sri Lanka card, this time with the Buddha Tooth Stupa on the sacred city of Kandy, a place where millions of pilgrims go to adore the illuminated tooth. I have to be honest, I didn't knew that in Buddhism human relics were worshiped to. Thanks again Du, the cards you sent me are just amazing, I'm very happy with our swap. This postcard took 16 days to arrive!
UNESCO #450 - Dalada Maligawa, Kandy - SRI LANKA
This sacred Buddhist site, popularly known as the city of Senkadagalapura, was the last capital of the Sinhala kings whose patronage enabled the Dinahala culture to flourish for more than 2,500 years until the occupation of Sri Lanka by the British in 1815. It is also the site of the Temple of the Tooth Relic (the sacred tooth of the Buddha), which is a famous pilgrimage site.
