Palmela Castle - PORTUGAL

This postcard was sent a portuguese postcrosser from Palmela - a very nice town near Setúbal and not far from Lisbon... it's famous for the cakes and cheese (Azeitão), for the wonderful wine and of course this beautiful casle that dominates all the area including the Arrabida Natural Park (UNESCO tentative) - thank you very much Catia for this beautiful postcard, a special edition released in 2012 to celebrate the wine (Moscatel... hummm!). This postcard took 6 days to arrive!

Castle of Palmela (European Municipality of the Wine 2012) - PORTUGAL

The Palmela Castle has existed since the 8th Century, when it was occupied by the Moors. In 1147 and the first Portuguese King, D. Afonso Henriques conquered the castle from the Moors. Ever since this castle has been an asset of significant geo–strategic value, because of its unique location.
