Laurisilva of Madeira - PORTUGAL - UNESCO #934

Today I had a very nice surprise in my mailbox - a postcrossing forum user sent me a card with the Laurisilva Forest in the island of Madeira, the only UNESCO site in that island... thanks a lot Ninocas, I really love it and thanks to you I'm almost done with portuguese sites and my counting in the list rises to 57 , 905 to go. This postcard took 8 days to arrive!

UNESCO #934 - Laurisilva Forest (Levada), Madeira - PORTUGAL

The Laurisilva of Madeira is an outstanding relict of a previously widespread laurel forest type. It is the largest surviving area of laurel forest and is believed to be 90% primary forest. It contains a unique suite of plants and animals, including many endemic species such as the Madeiran long-toed pigeon.
